After being diagnosed in July of 2015 with relapsing/remitting MS, I was devastated. I felt very overwhelmed and had many questions. I immediately started researching online about the disease and had convinced myself that I would never be able to walk again or do any of the activities I enjoyed.
Learning to live with MS has been an ongoing struggle. I have spent the past 4 years learning my limits mentally and physically. Yet, I try very hard to continue living my life as I did before; I often push myself well beyond my limits. I have been relatively symptom free since my first relapse of optic neuritis in my right eye. I strongly believe that these three things have contributed to the stabilization of my condition:
- Early detection – I was diagnosed within a week of losing my eyesight
- Finding the right medication shortly after my diagnosis
- Constantly working towards a healthier lifestyle
I participated for 3 years in the MS Walk and it was always such a positive experience for me. The support that I have received from family and friends has been truly amazing. Recently I have taken an interest in biking because long distance running just isn’t possible anymore. After volunteering at the 2018 MS Bike, I knew I had to participate this year. Rozzi’s Riders welcomed me with wide open arms to join their team – I felt like I had already been a team member for years. I am very grateful and excited to be a part of the 2019 MS Bike!
Why I’m gearing up
Canada has the highest rate of MS in the world. Every day 3 more Canadians are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable illness that affects vision, balance, memory and mobility. We don’t know what causes MS and there is no cure.
Your support means families who are impacted by this often devastating disease do not have to face MS alone.
When you pledge me in the MS Bike, your funds are invested into ground-breaking research to find the cause and cure for the disease, while providing services to Canadians with multiple sclerosis and their families.
Please consider joining our team on August 24th & 25th at the MS Bike or sponsoring us – any form of support is greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for joining the fight to end MS!
