My ride, and that of all Team 4CYC members, is inspired by Carol Yorkden-Chamberlain, my daughter. Diagnosed with MS soon after graduating from university, she told almost noody for years (and earned a Schulich MBA while working full time). But in the past six years Carol has felt the full effects of what she calls "the gift that keeps on giving". She had to quit skating and cycling, then needed a walker, and now must be pushed in a wheelchair. She had to go on long-term disability and progressively lost hand control so she cannot type, feed herself, or reliably control a cell phone or TV remote. She has lost all bladder control, her mental acuity and eyesight have diminished, and recently (at age 39) had to move from her condo into a care home where almost everyone is more than twice her age. Vocalization is also becoming a challenge. Through it all, Carol remains remarkably positive about life - but she also appreciates the work being doone by "her team".
Team 4CYC rides to support research that will keep others from experiencing what has happened to Carol! We encourage you to support us, or to ride as part of our Team!
