Why I’m Riding
I am so excited to be taking part in my third MS bike tour alongside everyone from Team Cowbell. With your donations and through the efforts of all participants, we will raise money dedicated to funding crucial research towards finding a cure, as well as providing services to families with members currently fighting MS.
This cause is also deeply personal to me; when I was 10 my mother was diagnosed with what would (thankfully) turn out to be a less aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis. For most of my life I have watched her suffer from an invisible illness that has stolen her energy, cognitive function, and mobility; caused her physical pain; and taken a toll on the emotional wellbeing of my entire family. We have been fortunate -the disease was caught early, and treatment commenced immediately to slow the progression. My mom has been able to retain most of her mobility, and has even been seeing some improvements in her health over the last couple years, though the damage from previous attacks cannot be reversed. I feel a strong sense of gratitude for the research that has led to the medications helping my mother cope, but I know that many families are not so lucky.
A Future without MS
Canada has the highest rate of MS in the world. Every day three more Canadians are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable illness that affects vision, balance, memory and mobility. We don’t know what causes MS and there is no cure.
The MS Society is the only national voluntary organization in Canada that supports both MS research and services, and the MS Bike Tour has been a critical part of the MS Society’s fundraising efforts for over 20 years. Proceeds from this event and others like it provide support and services to help those living with this disease, their families and caregivers. They also fund research with three primary goals: to find a cause and cure for MS, repair nervous system damage caused by MS and stop MS attacks. By supporting me, you too can make a difference in the life of someone with multiple sclerosis.
I am part of the MS Bike Tour because I believe in a future without multiple sclerosis and with your help we can get there. Please give generously.
