What if one day you wake up and can’t walk or maybe you are not able to speak clearly and your vision is blurred. That’s what’s it’s like to live with multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, debilitating disease. Hi, my name is Jessica and I have had MS for 12 years now. I was a nurse before MS struck me down and because of this disease, I can no longer practice nursing and had to retire at the age of 32. I started doing this walk because it made me feel very “free”. By that I mean that I had control of something in my life for a change. It is a way for me to fight and nothing holds me back. Throughout the years, I have walked this walk, I have used my husband as a cane, and last year I was in a wheelchair. I continue to fight because I need to fight. I will not give up. I come back every year for a different reason as well. To raise money of course, but even more than that it is to revisit the faces that I see every year. It is like a family. Like every family, we may not always agree on everything, but we all agree that we need to find a cure for MS. The one thing that gets me motivated and gives me the drive to push through is the love and support of my family and friends. They give me the courage to fight this disease and never give up. By making a pledge you can help me continue this fight and join my team, “Gabe’s Guardians”, in the fight to end MS.
You can make a pledge by: - Going to www.mswalks.ca, looking under the team Gabe’s Guardian’s and making a pledge under my name Jessica McDougall Richard. - Sending an Interac money transfer to my email firstname.lastname@example.org and send the answer the security question to my email separately. - Send a cheque to my address- 17 Winslow Avenue, Miramichi, NB, E1N 2Y2
