Walkers & Runners Laced-up for fight against MS
Red Deer, May 2014 – Hundreds of Central Alberta residents laced-up for loved ones at Great Chief Park on May 25th for Red Deer’s MS Walk & Run. The event is the Central Alberta Chapter’s signature fundraiser which is designed to mobilize large numbers of those living with MS and those who care about them. The Society endeavors to raise funds because walking alone is not enough.
So far, over $135,000 has been raised by the 576 registered participants. For the second year, a 5K and 10K timed run component was included. 63 runners turned out for what many are calling a beautiful course and a great run.
Opening ceremonies for the MS Walk & Run included words from Honourable Cal Dallas, Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations and MLA for Red Deer South, Maryann Jablonski MLA for Red Deer North, Mayor Sean McIntyre, Town of Sylvan Lake and Councillor Buck Bucanan, City of Red Deer. Inspirational Champion Becky Money shared her journey with MS and spoke words of inspiration that those affected by MS are not alone. Bec Dent, of the BIG105.5 morning team, kept the program flowing and tirelessly engaged with participants .
Over 50 volunteers and staff rallied early to set up the event site. Mother Nature cooperated with perfect conditions for this outdoor family-friendly event
Pledge money continues to be collected and turned in. All outstanding monies are encouraged to be returned to the MS Society by September 30, 2014.
