On behalf of the MS Society and the Lakeland MS Walk & Run Committee, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone for their understanding with regard to the cancellation of this year's scheduled Walk & Run routes in St. Paul.
In light of the terrible tragedy that took place in St. Paul on the Friday night before the event, and out of respect for the community and all those affected, we made the difficult decision not to move forward with the Walk & Run routes as planned. Given the timing of the incident, we were not able to widely communicate this change to our participants in advance of Saturday - we extend our sincerest apologies to those who were inconvenienced as a result of this, and hope you will understand the challenges surrounding the situation we faced.
For those who did arrive, we chose to provide an opportunity inside our venue to come together as a community to acknowledge the tragedy and pray for all those involved, while also recognizing and thanking everyone who worked so hard leading up to the Walk & Run, including our participants, donors, sponsors and volunteers.
We want you to know that we honour you as dedicated members of our MS family, and deeply appreciate your commitment to the fight against MS. Just as the St. Paul community is sure to show its resilience in the face of this terrible incident, we know that our MS community will also stay strong in spite of these unfortunate events, and as an organization, we remain dedicated to serving those impacted by MS in every way possible.
Given the time it is sure to take for the St. Paul community to heal from the impact of this tragedy, we have decided not to offer an alternate date to make-up for the missed Walk & Run this year. We hope you will understand this most difficult decision.
We do, however, want to do everything we can to ensure the monetary success of our event this year, so that we can continue to serve our local members to the greatest capacity, while also fueling vital MS research. We are excited to share that revenue received to-date for this year's event is looking very strong, and we're poised for a very successful year, despite the circumstances.
