MS Bike Tour-20 Years Strong!
Red Deer, June 2014 – Cyclists geared up at Festival Hall June 7 & 8th for Red Deer’s Johnson MS Bike tour. The event is one of five MS Bike tours taking place in Alberta. Affectionately known as “the best little bike tour in Alberta” the Red Deer tour has seen over 2500 cyclists and raised over 1.5 million dollars over the past 20 years.
Monies raised go towards finding a cure for multiple sclerosis and enabling people affected by MS to enhance their quality of life. So far, over $132,000 has been raised, by the 105 registered participants. Pledge money continues to be collected and turned in.
Opening ceremonies for the Johnson MS Bike tour included words from MP Earl Dreeshen, Red Deer, Judy Gordon, former mayor of Lacombe & former MLA, and Ashley Lawrence of Johnson Inc. Inspirational Champion and author William Boulton shared his journey with MS and spoke words of encouragement to the cyclists.
Cyclists were lead out by a precession 19 members of the Gasoline Alley Harley Davidson HOG Chapter while Darcy Stingel, of Sunny94fm, Bryson Bond of Bond Nutrition Inc. and Sarah Dasilva of World Gym, along with staff, kept the enthusiasm flowing at the start/finish line by tirelessly peddling on spin bikes.
Over 79 volunteers and staff rallied early to set up the two-day event site. Mother Nature cooperated
